EVENTS/NEWS
› Reinventing Land Use Planning in Baltimore County: Dealing with the Demise of CZMP
NCP will host a public forum on May 16, 7PM at the Agricultural Center to begin the discussion of potential changes to the County's zoning process. Several attempted referenda and a lawsuit that resulted from the CZMP 2012 decisions have highlighted the need to take a critical look at the process for the future. Following this forum, NCP will undertake a study and we urge participation by those who have ideas or experience in the subject. MORE INFO >>
› Growth Tiers
As mandated by the State, Baltimore County has designated Growth Tiers which will limit future septic systems. Most of the northern county is designated Tier IV, which should prevent any further major subdivisions. However, there are still the possibility of thousands of new houses and a number of planned development have been "grandfathered", so the need for land preservation remains as strong as ever. Maps of the Tiers can be found at MyNeighborhood.
› Successful Transitions: From Apprentice to Farmer
NCP has funded a follow-up study to examine the results of various farmer training programs, including the Beginning Farmer Trainee Program which NCP was instumental in starting 4 years ago. The results of this study will help guide future changes and improvements to the program. Report >>Appendices >>
RECENT ISSUES
› CZMP 2012
CZMP 2012 has reached its conclusion, with the final decison on August 28, 2012. As we did for 2008, NCP again assembled a GIS database of environmental data to assist community associations and individuals in their determination of areas which require better protection through changes in zoning. The database also provided the County Council members and others a basis for evaluating submitted rezoning requests with regards to their environmental impact. MORE INFO >>
› Nutrient Management Guidelines
The Maryland Department of Agriculture has issued new Nutrient Management Guidelines in an effort to better protect the Bay from farm runoff. The Farm Bureau had written a letter which went into detail on their opposition to many of the proposed provisions which it believed would be detrimental to farming. READ THE LETTER >>
